  1. EXAMPLE:
1.I am reading ZOMBIE HAIKU by Ryan Mecum. So far in my story, a man named Chris Lynch is describing a terrorizing experience in an airport. This scene reminds me of MacCarther Airport on Long Island. Chris describes being locked in a newstand with a woman named Barbara. They are hiding from some weird creatures/humans trying to attack them. I could picture the two characters living off the candy bars and other items of the newstand that Chris describes. I could picture the gates drawn down, protecting them, while the enemy is trying to attack.

    2. So far, my book has discussed the dead roaming around and being able to talk/write in a journal. In reality, the dead can't roam around the streets so this can not possibly be realistic fiction. I know that science fiction often provides us with mutation like creatures; perhaps these walking dead are such mutations.

1.I am reading the book SWORD OF THE RIGHTFUL KING by: Jane Yolen and so far in my story I was introduced to a character named Prince Gawaine and he is called by his mother, the Queen (or her regular name Morgause). This was odd since the only two reasons why she would call him, is if she needs something from him or if she was angry at him. He knew why his mother wanted him; she wanted to talk about his rightful place on the throne, but he did not want to since he felt that he was not ready to continue. His mother never made things easy for her kids because she thought that Princes needed to be tested even more than peasants. So as he is walking to his mother's "office" ( it was not described much and does not have a specific title) he has all of these thoughts of him telling his mother he did not want to rule, but obviously he just said it to the wall so it did not impact him or his mom at all. Once he is with his mom she tells him that he is her eyes and ears which makes him feel as if he is suppose to be a spy of the court. This reminded me of the Hunger Games in the arena where everything is a known by the government; like a spy.
2.I know that this book is fantasy because Gawaine's mom os talking about a man named Merlinnus who has conspired to steal Gawaine's birthright. If you read the preview of the book they talk about Merlinnus magically placing a sword in a slab of rock that is suppose to tell who will be the ruler of England. In order for that to occur he/or she has to take out the sword. We all know that there is no such thing as magic and fantasy books contain elements of magic, mythical dragons and mythical creatures often in the time of the 1500's. So far this book talks about Merlinnus' magic and sounds as if it is taken place in the 1500's.

  3. 1. I am reading GREGOR THE OVERLANDER by Suzanne Collins. So far in my story, a boy named Gregor is explaining how boring his life is during the summer. He reminds me of When it is raining outside and I have no sports theat day and I can,t go outside and play. But, he's cooped up in his house because he has to watch his little sister named boots.

    2. At least one reason I know my book is a fantasy is by one roaches and bats can talk to each other and overlanders/humans. So, I know for a fact that my book is fantasy because creatures in real life don't talk like they do in the story.

  4. I am reading Harry Potter and the CHAMBER OF SECRETS by J.K.ROWLING.So far in my book, a boy named Harry Potter is stuck living with the Dursleys who treats Harry badley. This reminds me of a time I had to live with my grandparents for a week. Then when Harry goes to his room he finds Dobby, a house elf.Dobby tells Harry that shocks him.Harry must not go back to Hogwarts(Harry's wizard school)

So far,my book has alot about magic and wizards like the narrorator said that Harry is a strong wizard.Dobby is a elf.In real life, these things cant possibly come and be real so its all a fantasy.

  5. 1.I am reading BURNING UP by Caroline B. Cooney. So far in my novel, there is a 15 year old girl named Macey Clare that enjoys getting to the weekend and rushing to her grandparents house. This scene reminds me of wanting to go to my moms house every other weekend.Macey is thinking about Saturday Group with Austin, and how his parents never stop fighting.Thats why he is living with his grandparents. While walking the dogs and eating dinner.

2.I know this book is fantasy because Macey is trying to figure out the secrets locked behind the burned out barn across from her grandparents. To do that she ventures out of a small community and volunteer at an inner city church. But tragedy strikes a new friend that lives by the church.

  6. I am reading the DRAGON'S KEEP by Janet Lee Caarey. My book talks about how a young girl named Rosalind is cursed with the "devil's curse" . She was born with a dragon like finger. Janet Lee Carney shows how tough it is to be Rosalind . She has to wear gloves at all times to cover the secret of her dragon claw that only she and her mother knows about. Rosalind is royality, she is the princess of Wilde Island ,and "she is the one that is destined to fulfill Merlin's six hundred year old prophecy". Merlin's prophecy is that Rosalind will restore her banished royal family to its rightful thrown.Merlin reminds me of fortune tellers that i saw when i went to London, England. Merlin and Fortune tellers both tell the fait, destiny of people.

This book so far talks about things such as majic, dragons, and wizards which obviously tells you that this book is not realistic fiction. There is no mythical beasts in reality. But this book is under the catagory of fantasy because fantasy talks about magic , mythical beast , and things that are basically not real.

    2. My book is about a kid who gets a dragon and must learn to control her to over throw the government of the world, this tells me its a fantasy book because it has mystical creatures like dragons and it takes place in a time a lon time ago with no modern technology

  9. 1.In my book(Return Ticket) a girl in school is having a hared time. She is wishing that she went to an all girls school. She said ,'' I wish I went to a privet school''. Because of all the round boys. This reminds me of a time I was in school a new school for me. Every one or some people where being mean. At that time I just wanted to go to a
school with a lot of people like me.

    2. Well this book has events that most likely wouldn't happen like a kid getting struck with very heavy soot and survives. BY:NOAH AGWU

  10. I'm reading DEEP WIZARDRY by Diane Duane. At the beginning, Nita, one of the main characters, takes her talking dog Poncho on a walk. This reminds me of the time I was at a park in Mississippi, when a little boy was yelling at his dog to fetch his toy.

It's a fantasy because the characters are wizards that learn how to talk to animals, plants and inanimate objects

  11. My book is called ERAGON By: Christopher Paolini. My book so far is about a Shade and his Urgals who are very EVIL. The Shade and Urgals stake out in a dark hidden forest. Innocent Elves are trotting by when bam they attack!! No one makes it out alive!! Then they introduce Eragon , he has to hunt in the woods on mountains that no man comes off of without some strange story to tell. On night after not finding any food for his family something makes a loud noise that sends him searching. He finds some weird looking rock. When he gets home all this stuff starts from the finding of the rock to the deaths of the Elves. No one knows what happened or who did what so Eragon wants to find out. When Eragon meets Horst , Horst tells Eragon that they MUST leave and Eragon isn't Abel to protest.during this sean I could see Eragon being LITTERALY DRAGED OUT by his feet! Also could picture the rock coming down from the sky and Eragon with a confused face on

  15. RESPONSE TO CIERA:
Ciera, I am not a huge fantasy fan, however you made ERagon sound some what appealing. I love stories that revolve around charcters being forced out of their homes and then struggling to find their way. I would predict for you that Eragon finds out the issue the rock caused and will find his way home.

1>My book "FLIP" is about two eight grade twins who ared nothing like each other in what ever they do. Their is Taylor who is perfect and always gets her way. Ryan on the other hand is the brother who is dissapointing, and lazy,

2>I can tell this book is fantasy because in the beginning it talks about different plants that don't exsist in reality. If the planets don't exsist then it could never happen in real life.

    4/7/11
1>Out the dad, Taylor, and Ryan, I would choose to sit by Taylor because she is the opposite of Ryan she probably has a better personality and would be a "nice" person to be around. Also she is kind of like me where I get almost everything I want compared to my older brother. I would ask her where did she get her "Powers of Persuasion from and why she is not fond of her brother and not teying to help him? For example, when Taylor got up to go to school she knew Ryan was going to sleep overtime, but she just yelled outside the door twice and left.

2>Rosalynn Burton: I remember seein that movie a long time ago. I think Caroline is gonna be in alot of trouble but sence this is fantasy they always find a way out. In this case, scince it is the book it might be a little different then the movie adding more detail toward every part.

  18. RESPONSE TO OSAMA:
Osama, your book sounds very interesting. I can almost imagine how tough life must be for Rosalind. It's probably not easy to hide the fact that you have a dragon like finger. I can relate to your book because the book I am reading right now talks about a boy named Percy who also has a prophecy that was told to him by an oracle. The only difference is that Rosalind's prophecy is positive while Percy's is negative.

  19. RESPONSE TO ROSALYNN:

your book seems cool. I like book with kind of adventure cause it always make you what will happen next? Like what will happen next? I think she will go into the world and probably live in her paradise then find out her true paradise is home.

  20. RESPONSE TO OSAMA:
Osama, the book you described sounded quite convincing, if I were you, I would be pretty anxious to find out the next part and the ending. I like books that give you that suspense and I can see that about Merlins prophecy and the book that can totally change the book.

My book is called Maniac Magee. There's this kid named Jeffery. He runs away from home to hundreds of miles away. The town is divided into East and West side. White people live on the west side. Black people live on the East side. This reminds me of Upper East and Upper West Manhatten. Upper East has lots of rich people living there. Upper West has normal, middle-class people.

    2. People all over town begin spreading rumours about Jeffery and they call him Maniac. Jefferey likes to run all over town, and people begin to wonder how he got hundreds of miles away from his real home. Everyone says he ran the whole way. Thats impossible. You'd die from exhaustion/thirst.

  26. 1: My book is titled Harry Potter: and the Sorcerers Stone by J.K. Rowling. There is one particular part in my book where Harry learns how to ride his broomstick. I have been to the re-created "Hogwart's Castle" at Universal Studio's in Orlando, FL. Seeing the Castle in real life has given me a better mental image of him actually doing that.

2: I know my book is fantasy because 1st of all people go to a school where you learn how to conduct Magic from your Wand or through a potion (etc.) also there is a three headed dog in the book. This wouldn't be considered science fiction because science really isn't being used to accomplish this, Magic is.
