Tuesday, April 12- Historical Fiction

Answer BOTH of the following questions:

1. The main character is moving to your town. Will he or she fit in? Why or why not? How are his or her values and tastes different from -or the same as- those of your hometown?

2. List some new clues that shows your book is historical fiction.

21 comments:

  1. , he differs from the way he talks to the food he eats to the clothes he wears. He is used to everyone knowing each other in his small little town/ village and everyone talking to each other and being friendly. He will get quite the reality check when he moves here no one talks to each other.I do not believe that Haoyou will fit in because he depends on his ancient chinese cultureot everyone knows each other and barely anyone is nice to each other.

    2. New clues showing my book is historical fiction is that his mother makes his clothes because they are very poor now that the man of the house has moved on, the book described there house as small and damp the way they built them in the 13th century.

  2. I am ASHES of ROSES by Mary Jane Auch.
    1. I think Rose Nolan will fit into Dover, Delaware. I think she will fit in because one she has very storng dispostion. Meaning she stands up for herself, makes her own decisions and will do whats right for her self and others. Also Rose came from a small town in Ireland that was very urban. Therefore getting into the swing of things will be easy becuase Dover is a samll city with some urban areas to live.
    2. Some more clues that shows me that ASHES of ROSES is historical fiction is the fire of 1911. The fire of 1911 was real and the many amounts of people that died was real, but the characters are not they just help to tell the story.

  3. 1) In my book RADICAL RED conner is the main character. If she moved to to Magnolia Conner would fit in because she is basically like any average 12 year old. Conner loves to be part of something big and important and most tweens or teens want to know everything that is going on around them. Conner is a very outdoorsey person and most kids around here love to go outside and hang with friends. Conner really Doesn;t hang with friends because shes worring about her mother and women being able to vote.

2)Some new clues to show that book is historical fiction by on the united states dollar coin is Susan B. Anthony. In the book it talks about how Bertha knows Susan B. Anthony. Conner ran into Bertha and Susan while getting lemonade and cakes. Our currency isn't a very young thing. Our dollars are old so therefore if Susan is in the book alive it must be farther back in time.

  4. 1. WANTED: A GIRL FOR THE HORSES By: Betty Cavanna. I Think Charlotte would fit in our neighboorhood because our neighboorhood is pretty quiet and nice, And her horse Cricket won't be distracted by anything, And also her values and tastes kinda mix with mine because If she WAS my next-door-neighbor We both like horses, We both own horses, And her personality is sweet, And to the point. I think she would belong into our neighboorhood.

    2. The clues in my book that its historical fiction is i the story when charlotte wanted to call her boss if she can stop to the market to do some arrons, The phone she used wasn't a cell phone, It was a phone that you "Twist the knob" and dialed the number. I don't think we use thoose types of phones since its back in the 1700's.

1.) Weetamoo is the main character to my book and no she would not fit in. First of, Weetamoo is a Native American from the seventeenth century and would not understand the technology we have today. It would be similiar to the show WIFE SWAP. Having Weetamoo come here having to adapt to our life styles may be difficult because in her time they have to hunt while we go to a grocery store. They have their own languge and Gods she would have to know. Also she comes from a time period where you must respect your elders and if don't get harsh punnishments such as: getting sent to the forrest on your own for a some time, or just bringing dishonor to your family. In our time period many teenagers scream and yell at their parents and parents yell back and ground them for some time.

2.) More clues on how I know this is historical fiction is because Weetamoo younger sister Snowbird is very ill and has been acting different so they took her to the powwaw which is there doctors. Snowbirds wuttah which is her heart is getting enough blood so now every night Weetamoo prays to Squant for Snowbird to become healthy. The nations money are purple and white beads on a string.

  6. 1) If the main character in my story was moving to my town, I think she would fit in and she would not fit in at the same time. This is because in Matildas town, she is used to walking out to get groceries whenever she wants or needs to. But in pur town, the stores are farther away and with the crime and violence today, she would not be safe walking alone. I think she would fit in because she is very friendly and she would make alot of new friends very easily.

2)Some new clues that show my book is historical fiction is that at night, Matilda and her family have to use lanterns instead of lightbulbs since they were not invented yet. Another clue is that, as i said before, there is no treatment for the fever that is rapidly spreading through out the town.

  7. 1.
In AN INNOCENT SOLDIER if the main character moved to my town he wouldn't fit in as well as he would like to.one reason for this would be because in the begining of the bookhe is living as a helper on a farm in the 1800s.He may be too amazed at the world. His clothes may also stand out because when he is not in his army uniform he wears rags.
    2.
I know this book is historicle fiction becausethe main character is now serving as a maid basicly in napoleon's army. They are taking alot about taking russia in the part of the book that i'm at.They are carying sabors on their uniforms at all times.

  8. 1. Deliverance, you will not fit intodays society so inorder to fit in you will need to know the common structures of 2011. We no longer live in the 1690's so we do not wear dresses or bonnets every day. Instead we wear shorts, skirts, and pants then a t-shirt and sneakers. Also we have many new technologys that cook our food quickly, like the microwave. We also changed our ways in school, instead of having every one in town in one classroom,we have splits our classes up into age levels so different ages are learning different things. Unlike you, instead of going to a long town meeting thats extemely important so you know everything thats happening,we have a newspaper. A newspaper tells us all the importang things about our state in a packet of paper. 2011 has alot of changes but we still follow the common structures of your society.

    2. My book is historical fiction because it tells of times in the 1690's were people used horses instead of cars. Also ther was no heat or A.C so they had to stuggle for survival with a simple fire and cold water or ice. And lastly, the children from all different ages would all go in one school house and learn the same exact thing. You were considered smart if you could read or write at the age of 12!!

  9. #1:) I am reading The Curse Of The Blue tattoo.(I finished my other book ) I do not believe Jackie Faber will fit in with our society. For starters this book takes place in the 1800's so their taste is way different from ours!! Also Jackie was once a guy ( in the first book) so she's kinda one of the guys and MOST girls are you know girly. She may like the fact that girls and guys aren't separated , the girls go to a school JUST for girls to learn to be a LADY!!!

#2:) The clues that show this book. Off as a Historical Fiction ware that this book for one takes place in the 1800's. That is a REAL time period. Also theses fact that she is in ENGLAND a REAL place!!! The fact that there isn't any motorized vehicles they travel by BOAT, FOOT, or HORSE and BUGGY defiantly show that this book is Historical Fiction.

  10. 1. If the main character Pattie Mea of my book THE LEGEND OF BUDDY BUSH was moving to my town she would and would not fit in. She would by she dreams about living in the north and having a nice house like her sister and brother and she knows what it is like. But she would not because she lives in a slave house so things are much different like the bathrooms are outside of the house so you don't have much privacy. Also the houses are more worn down and they are not painted so it just might feel weird.

    2. Some new clues that my book is Historical Fiction by they say that there is a bath in the outside of their house instead of the inside, also they have to walk long distance to get to their grandma's house (or anyone's house). Also the white folks are mean to the African Americans

  11. 1) If the main character of HUCKLEBERRY FINN, Huck, moved to our town, he would definitely not fit in. He is what people will refer to as a "hillbilly" because he talks with words that are country like. For example, he says things such as clumb, instead of climb, and smelt instead of smelled. He also would not fit in because his time was long ago, and if he came here, he wouldn't know how to use any of our technology.
    2) Some reasons I know Huckleberry Finn is historical fiction is their lack of technology. They don't have and advanced ways of travel, because Huck mainly traveled by foot or boat wherever he went. Also, the didn't have and method of communication, other than yelling for each other. For example, when Huck was trying to find his friend Jim, he couldn't just pull out his cell phone and call him, he had to yell his name until they found each other.

  12. 1)The character that will be moving to my town would be Josephine. I say she might fit but she might not because she can be cool at times and she can be mean like some of the kids thats at Postlethwait. Her values are different than ours because she just punch a boy right in their face if they get smart with her, but at Postlewait we get smart back instead of hitting them. Her taste is the same for our's because she like to get smart with people like we do, and she can defend her self.
2)My book show's that it's historical fiction because Josephine use to always sneak to see Lucas. But she stoped because she got cought being with him and he couldn't see her anymoer.

  13. IN RESPONSE TO MEGAN JONES
I would day that Matilda would fit in in a town like in Tennesse out in the country where everything is quite and peaceful, and the towns are tiny so she could walk to the stores without being threatened, mugged, or shot.

  15. RESPONSE TO MICHAEL R:

I would think that the Soldier would belong to Pakastan, Or Iraq because that way, He can pratice his shooting and he won't stand out because most of the army soldiers are there so he will most likely won't be made fun of.

  16. IN RESPONSE TO SARAH MOUHTARIM

I definently think that the main character would not fit in here because not everyone knows each other and they dont talk alot. Today with so much crime and violence it is so different from where Haoyou is from. I would agree with Sarah about her decision.

  17. RESPONCE TO DOMINIQUE ROBINSON:
I beleive that your main character woudn't fit in as well.Knowing that he/she is from the seventeenth century,he/she would be very confused about alot of different machines and buildings.his/her morning rutine would much different than ours in the fact that he/she must kill the wild for food every day.

  18. IN RESPONSE TO ALI MCKAY:4-15-11
    1. I would say that Rose would fit into Deleware too! As we all know Delware might be the first state, but its very small and unpopular. If a real brave person like rose were here she would know what to do and how to stick up for her self. You rarely here of people from Deleware, going famous. Its possible, but it take a very willing and tough person(like Rose) to stand up for themselfs and become well known. If Rose is like Ali described her, she would be able to do this and fit well into our society.

    IN RESPONSE TO SARAH M
I would say Haoyou would not fit into our town because like you said he was from China so it wouild be a reality check. Haoyou would have to learn our language and our religions. In the new version of THE KARATE KID you can definatly see the differences between Delaware and China.

  20. RESPONSE TO HALEY PRILLAMAN
I think you are right about Deliverence not fitting in becaue of how outdated she would be. But if she got rid of all the out dated things I wonder if she would fit in. What type of personality does Delivernence have? Ibet if Delivernence traveled thourgh time to now i wonder if she would fit if she got updated.

  21. My book is A GREAT AND TERRIBLE BEAUTY by Libba Bray. I think the main character Gemma would fit into my town because she believes in having a right to be independant and she dosent like the idea of having to rely on the man that will chosen to be her husband. This helps her fit in because in todays society women are independant and today most women are very succesful on their own..

Some clues that my book is historical fiction is that it takes place in 19th Century England. Also Gemma wears a corset, while no one today wears a corset. Another reason is that she talks very elagant and respectful.
