  1. EXAMPLE
1.I am reading ZOMBIE HAIKU by Ryan Mecum. So far in my story, a man named Chris Lynch is describing a terrorizing experience in an airport. This scene reminds me of MacCarther Airport on Long Island. Chris describes being locked in a newstand with a woman named Barbara. They are hiding from some weird creatures/humans trying to attack them. I could picture the two characters living off the candy bars and other items of the newstand that Chris describes. I could picture the gates drawn down, protecting them, while the enemy is trying to attack.

    2. So far, my book has discussed the dead roaming around and being able to talk/write in a journal. In reality, the dead can't roam around the streets so this can not possibly be realistic fiction. I know that science fiction often provides us with mutation like creatures; perhaps these walking dead are such mutations.

  2. 1: My book is called A Taste of Smoke, by Marion Dane Bauer. So far my book has reminded me of the time when my family went on a vacation to Hershy, and before going to our hotel my parents wanted to stop at a museum, that I had no interest in seeing. I connected to the passage because the main character Catlin, and her sister Pam were going on a trip and before getting their Pam wanted to stop at a museum that catlin had no interest in seeing. This passage is important to the book because it is the place where the plot starts to unfold and without a plot in the story the story would be nothing.
2: One hint that this book is realistic fiction is when the narorator said that Pam was in college and this was the first time that she was back. Also when catlin was happy that she and her sister would spend time together, sence Pam had been away at college for so long.

  3. 1.So far the part of the book that reminded me of somthing that i felt or did was when at the end of 6th grade my friend tristen vilet moved away because i was down just like the main character was down when her best friend left to work in the city. And she says the she still misses he friend like i miss him too.oh and my book is sold.
2.I can tell the book is realistic fiction because stuff like what happans in book actully happans to kids all around the world.

  4. I am reading LOOKING FOR ALASKA by John Green This book relates to someone I know. There's a part in this book were the boy Miles gets to his new school and dorm room. It sort of reminds me of this person in a way because Miles's roommate isn't the best person you would want to be hanging out with along with his friends. Miles's roommate Chip is a horrible influence, he doesn't follow the rules, he smokes, and drinks under age. Along with that he is all doing it behind the headmasters back. Then there's the way Miles describes the classrooms being on a long straight building which has me think of an elementary school and the structure of it and how the classrooms are down just one hall all crowded and about 20 classrooms in each hall.

So far, my book has talked about leaving his home to go to a school to find his purpose in life and how maybe the people at the school he attends now will actually notice him and he will be a someone to those people. He also talks about finding a cute girl he may like, and the way you would expect a school day to go. I know that this is realistic fiction because theres no monsters or dead people roaming everywhere or even mystical creatures and floating cars and etc. This book deals with events that could happen in a regular school kid's day such as people who dont get along with you, the one person you think is cute or either like, the group of friends your always around and the teachers u do/don't get along with.

  6. I am reading the book THE DAUGHTERS BY JOANNA PHILBIN. Lizzie is at her famous super model mother's photo shoot and Lizzie, wishs she could be as perfect as her mother is with her life. Lizzie also, does not feel that she could be as famous/successful as her mother with her own career. Suchas most children never feel that can live up to their parents greatness.

    2. The book so far is realistic fiction because some have famous parents and feel that can not live up to where their parents were in th business of acting, singing, or dancing/modeling. Also that they would get treated different then people whos parents are not famous get.

  7. 1. Im reading the book TEARS OF A TIGER. So far my book is about boys at a high school after their basketball game. They are all talking in the locker room and they are all going to have a little something to drink befor they go home (keep in mind they are under age!) So there are 4 boys Andy Tyrone B.J.and Robbie are all in a car and one is driving and they are drunk and they end up getting into a car accident and one of the star basketball players die.

    2. My book is realistic fiction because this could have happen in real life to boys who have been drinking after a basketball game and got into a car accident. Also it gives real names of common people names.

  8. 1.I am reading CHAINS by Laurie Halse Anderson, and so far the main character Isabel, is being bidded on by Madam and Mr. Lockton and a waitress, with her sister Ruth, at a tavern. Isabel pleads to God that she will be with a owner that is caring, hoping that she will get to be in a happy home. I've had the same feeling, when I would really want something, I would cruch my teeth, squint my eyes, and scrunch up my toes and say to myself "Please please please!" I could picture her doing those exact motions as she pleaded for salvation. Isabel describes how Mr. Robert (the man who sold them) carelessly drops his "earned" money into his bag after he sold them to mr and mrs Lockton. I could actually hear the clinging and even the golden rings of the falling objects of obssesion of gold.

2.It talks about the loyalists wanting to start war and Isabel wants to rat them out and runaway. And there isn't anything specific about any Locktons or an Isabela and Ruth in real life. There is a true described, and thoughtful feeling inside of Isabela that tells me that this can't possibly be based on a certain person's life in non-fiction.

  9. 1.)I am reading THE CAR by Gary Paulsen. So far in my story, a boy named Terry lives with his mom and dad. His parents don't pay much attention to him and are always fighting. One day his parents don't come home and he is left home alone. To pass the time Terry starts building a kit car. This scene reminds me of my dad working on his antic truck. I could picture Terry playing with the engine just like my dad does. In addition, both Terry's dad and my dad are mechanics.

2.)So far, my book talks about parents fighting. I find that very realistic because married couple fight. In addition, my story talks about a Bearcat kit car which are real cars.

  10. I am reading AL CAPONE DOES MY SHIRTS by Gennifer Choldenko. In my book the main character is a boy named Moose. Moose, his mom, dad and sister Natalie all moved to Alcatraz island where his father works as an electrician and a guard. I can relate to this because I have had to move around alot and its hard to adapt to new surroundings. With there only being about 12 kids on Alcatraz you don't have a big variety of who to hang out with.

Also, Living on Alcatraz you have to be extremely carefull not to get in to trouble. By trouble I mean NEVER interact with the prisoners, such as Al Capone. If i were in Mooses shoes not only terrified I would also go insane.

  12. 1. I am reading SPEAK by Laurine Halse Anderson. so far there is a girl named Melinda Sordino how is starting high school with not a singel friend she is being bullyed from some summer party were she called the cops no one like her and not one of her old friend will talk to her she is learning to suvive high school she meet one girl named Heather who she find to be annouying what i can piture is are high school with so many freashmen floating around so scared and the one girl just total lost by hinding from teachure lastly seeing this one girl hinding a a bathroom running in to people that hate her.
    2. so far my book show that a girl with no friend entering a high school after calling the police at a party during the summer this is not somthing uncommoun going in to high school there are people in the high school today that are just like this girl this is what i think hint that this book is realistic fiction.

  14. I am reading SOMEONE TO LOVE ME by Anne Schraff. In the first few pages of my story, a girl named Cindy Gibson is stating how she does not want to go to school and how she just wants to have a lazy day.and describes how it's only October and she's been absent several times, and how she's so far behind that she couldn't do anything but fail and that reminded me of myself when the school year just started, and how I went from 3 months of summer, sleeping in, and not doing any work to waking up everyday at 6:00AM getting ready for school, and how i would lay in bed for an extra 5 minutes not wanting to get up, and just have a lazy day by staying in my PJ's all day and not do anything, and just watch movies all day with my dogs Blackie, and Brooklyn, the same way Cindy watched movies all day with her 2 cats Theo and Cleo.

    2. So far my book has talked about feelings that the reader may feel on a daily basis such as not wanting to go to school, and that's not a feeling only Cidney feels this is something almost every kid/teenager feels while their going to school.

  15. 1. I am reading the book BLACK JUICE by Margo Lanagan. So far in the story a girl name Ikky is standing in a tar pit. She sing songs with her friends an famiy. This reminds me of when i was stuck in the air in camp for a poject with friends and to let time past i started singing.Ikky sang old songs and i just sang songs that popped to mind.Such as "Ill be there" by Micheal Jackson, "Goodbye" by Chris brown, and 'I will always love you" by Whitney Huston. I could really go back and see Ikky sing old songs with family and friends just like i did.

    2. I could tell this book was realistic fiction because was that people today do not stand in a pit of tar but in actuallity a person can..so it could be realisic or fiction

  16. 1.I am reading SCHOOLED by Gordon Korman and so far the passage that i relate to is when, Cap was brought out of his roral lifestyle to a more suburban lifestyle. I have felt the way Cap has felt because Cap (a male teen) came from farmland, hillbillies, and hippies to middle school, new culture, and lots of different types of people. I was also not used to all this "chaos" of going into middle school with all these switching of classes, teachers everywhere, and homework day and night. It is an expirience that makes a teen more mature, independant, and responsible. A quote that can help show support this would be when Mrs. Donnelly said "This little flower child, who barely knew how a doornob worked, suddenly dropped in a society several centuries ahead of the one she'd just left."

    2. I can tell that the book SCHOOLED is realistic fiction because of the situation the main charicter is in. Its a realistic situation that could and has happen to plenty of people from roral areas. the book talks about regular real life things. Nothing like aliens and monsters taking over the world or a scientist inventing such a horrifying creature called Frankenstien. Thoes thing would be absurd, fictional, and completely preposterous.

  17. RESPONSE TO PEIGHTON :
Peighyn: I also could connect to your book LOOKING FOR ALASKA because when I went to college there were many people on my floor in my dorm who did unethical actions such as flooding the bathroom with paper towels.

It sounds like your character Miles is in for a treat or perhaps even some discipline because of his roomate.

  20. I am responding to TARA DADDIOS blog

I think that this is a great example of how you connect to the book. By stopping at the muesem, you could have learned something important. And in the story, it sounded like the characters learned something to about the plot unfolding. I can connect with this book because many times i have not wanted to do alot of things, but i have learned something from taking the experience.

  21. RESPONSE TO MOLLY HARRIS:

I think thats a good topic about your story, After my grandfather died years ago, He would always take me down to the lake and I would watch him fish.It gives me back memories. And the fact that the book takes place in North Carolina, I always wanted to visit there,It seems like your book seems interesting! I guess we are both on the same page here.

  22. IN RESPONSE TO BRIANNI:
I can also, connect to your book Son=me to love me because now that school is almost out. Almost every morning now all I want to do is stay home have "lazy day" because the two days we have for a "break" from school is not long enough with only two days to sleep in when we need like four or five.
I hope that cindy will see that if she gets out of bed and sees that when she does the school year will go by so fast.

  23. I am reading AL CAPEONE DOES MY SHIRTS. And if I were on a train sitting next to Moose (who just happens to be the main character) I would tell him...
It's going to be okay, Natalie is going to get help at Ester P. Marinoff. Maybe change is good. You'll find people you bond with, and just possibly Piper is not as bad as you think. You will find that everything gets worse before it gets better.

  24. RESOPONSE TO JASMINE T.
Jasmine your book seems really intersting. I think that its a little sad that the star basketball player dies. I think that teaches people a great leason that people should not drink and drive let alone drink underage.
I predict that the other boys will get in alot of trouble for drinking under age and driving.

I like how you compare your life to your main charaters life. How Both you & her are sometimes lazy & you both like to sleep in & not go to school. I'm pretty sure everyone likes sleeping in & realxing, But also no one wouldwant to fail & miss half of the school year.

  29. RESPONSE TO MOLLY:

Usually when I read about a normal person about their normal life I don't find interest. But the way you mentioned "start over" that made me stop and think about what would happen if I had to start over. Last when you mentioned about his wife dieing and having to raise two children that made me stop and thikn more about life. So possibly the book your reading would interest me!!!!

  36. 1. I am reading HOLES by Louis Sachar. This book reminds me of little kids that get picked on. In the book there is a character named Zero who gets picked on because he can not read and because he has zero friends.
    2. This book is realistic fiction because it talks about digging holes, teaching people how to read and Sam giving the teachre fresh peaches and onions. All these things can happen in real life which makes this book a realistic fiction book.
