Tuesday, April 12- Realistic Fiction

Answer BOTH of the following questions:

1. The main character is moving to your town. Will he or she fit in? Why or why not? How are his or her values and tastes different from -or the same as- those of your hometown?

2. List some new clues that shows your book is realistic fiction.

  1. 1) Im reading the book TEARS OF A TIGER. If the main character Andy would have came to town I think he would fit in. I think this because most boys/teenagers would act the same way if there friend died in the car accident while they were driving. Also he is another teenage boy who is very good at basketball and has parents who want him to do better in school and get good grades. Andy is kind of different from boys who live in dover is by the way he talks. Andy talks very street like like he is from the hood/projects.

2)Some clues that shows this book is realistic fiction is.......
    -uses real names
    -uses real dates
    -uses real life issuse/problems
-uses real life events that might/could happen to kids in high school.

  2. 1.The main character of the story would not fit in too well in my town because she has never really heard of t.v. and everyone in this town has at least had 1 coke while she has'nt.
2.I can tell this book is realistic fiction because in a author's note it say's that this thing called a sex trade happans to about 12,000 girls in the india area and the main character has this happan to them.

  3. 1.Isabel from CHAINS is moving to my hometown/neighborhood. I don't think that she would fit in because she talks old style, and she doesn't have much of an edge of relaxation. She's more on the edge of urgency. Anyway, she has less modern styles, to fit in comfortably. Such as...maybe not being used to being free on your own. She's always being bossed around by her mistress madam. And she would kind of feel stiff, being around a new community, like once before, when she was sold to mr. and mrs. Lockton. She did not know how things worked around the area of her new community. And she could feel the same way in my neighborhood.

2.The new clues that I'd found were few. One clue I found, was about the first attack towards the rebels by the british. A second clue was that(due to research), there was no such person named Captain Campbell, captain of the british. Another one was a rumor about the british letting the slaves free after they've won. There was no rumor because there would be total doubts about the british siding with the slaves. But at the same time, all of these clues relate to realistic events and leaders of the time of slavery.

  5. 1.)If my main character Cidney were moving into my town she would fit in, because she is silent, and not the type of person to go out and in the my book SOMEONE TO LOVE ME she says "I really don't like being out too much, Im such a homebody." and I know alot of people who like to stay home for example my mom, she doesn't go out on weekdays, fridays or weekends, but to work and home.

2.) Some new clues my book is realistic fiction is when Cidney mentioned she was a "homebody" and I made a connection to my mom, I read about what Cidney and the other characters in the book are doing and see myself and others doing the same.

  6. 1~So Ikky moves to Felton Delaware.I dont think se would be able to last or fit in with Delawarians. I think so because the simple fact that she is a little to kind to peaople. Some people in this world are cold hearted. She probally would handle the simple name calling that goes around. For example, fat, ug;y,weirdo, and etc. Ikky isnt th type of girl to wear skinny jeas and a V-neck shirt. She probally would settle for the sneakers Van's an Nike's. Most people in my hometown is known for rocking name brand clothes sneakers. If your not your a outcast. I really dont think Ikky can fit in with us.

2~some clues that kind of leads to the book being realistic fiction is that the kids are at the hill tops by them selves in the dark but in life kds can be inda hills by them selves.

  7. LOOKING FOR ALASKA By John Green, the main character Miles Halter would fit in because he's a regular kid going to a normal academy. Miles lives a normal life such as the teens in Delaware. He's just another teenager who wants to fit in. He will do anything to seem cool even if that means he has to get into trouble just to be noticed.

So far, LOOKING FOR ALASKA is realistic fiction because its a normal teenager trying to fit in. He goes too school, he sneaks around, he gets caught for things he shouldn't be doing, and he crushes on girls. He is a normal boy trying to have a normal life. This book relates too so much that could happen in a regular day of teenager. And it's realistic fiction because everything happening in the book could be happening right now. They're all characters that are made up but could still be a chance there real.

  8. 1.)My book is THE CAR by Gary Paulsen. If the main character, Terry, were to move to my town I think he would fit in. I think this because Terry is someone who likes to stick to himself. Terry's taste are simular to people who live in my town because he is really into cars and so are the people who live in my town.

2.)THE CAR is relistic fiction because the main character is driving across the country in a car. (which is something a person could do in real life.) Along the way he faces real life problems such as rain, cops, and car troubles.

  9. the book iim reading is SAFE HAVEN by Nicholas Sparks the main character in the book would fit in well in Dover DE. because she was moving away from here very upusive and acholic husband and she was ready to stared over in a small town which Dover is. the only down fall would be that when Kevin her husband comes home from busyness he will stared looking for here fast and he is cheif of detective thats why kait( or Erin that is her really name she changed it to hide from him.)could not call on the police to help her because they would not belever her.
    2. The clues i have that my book is realistic fiction is that abusive husband do exsite and girls like kaite and guys can runaway from the place the live in.

  10. 1. if the main charicter of my store move in to are town I think that she would fir in better here then were she is at.Because the girl is dis like in here school has know firends and is bullyed by a number of stundent but inspeshly by the on student IT who has i have seen is why she felt like she had to call the cop. how the values of Mellisa are the same as the veulas of kid in are hometown is for one she love to shop and have sleep over and have friend but infornatly she dose not have that
    2. some clues that this book is realistic fiction is that bullying is a vary comonne thing that happen at school today also bullying can cause prombelm just like Melisea has founf she is a fread of people and is not as soushial as she used too be.

  11. 1.Capricorn Anderson is comin to my neighborhood!?!? Oh No! This is bad news. Cap is so different from me and my neighbords I dont know how he'll survive. He comes from totaly farmland with cows, sheep, you name it. Cap wouldnt last a day in the life of a normal teen at my neighborhood. He is also homeschooled which is totally different from the rest of us because we go to a public middle school in my neighborhood. The only thing Cap has in common with us is waking up to the bright sun.
2.My book had a part with cops chasing Cap because he was driving a school bus. You might find this proposterouse but it can happen in real life which is a reason why this book is realistic fiction.

  12. 1: The main character would fit in (this town) because Catlin is a girl that has a regular family. Her sister is on a camping trip with her, but is only spending time with her boyfriend instead of her sister who misses her sense she goes to college. Catlin's values and tastes are the same because she gets mad because her sister is not paying any attention to her. Also Catlin likes the out doors and loves to camp.

2: The clues that hint that this story is realistic fiction is when Catlin gets mad because her sister is not paying any attention to her. This gives clues that the story is realistic fiction because the problem that Catlin is dealing with is the same problem that other brothers or sisters deal with when their older sibling is in college and has a boy friend that appears when they go camping!

  13. If the main character of the book THE DAUGHTERS which is Lizzie Summers moved into my hometown, I believe she would fit in because she is very down to Earth and knows what she wants to do with her life which is become a famous writer. Also, because she has some of the same values of some people because she only wants to focus on her writing and most people only want to focus on their careers and not on their socail lives such as most people including Lizzie, but sometimes for Lizzie and other people only want to have a socail life instead of just a careers because in my novel Lizzie gets faced with a very important choose to go out and hang out with her crush and best friends the same day she has a writing contests and finds out that have both lives is very hard whovh most Americans have to face everyday.

Some new clues that make my book realistic fiction because Lizzie was being defiant to her mother at fashion week all because her mother had not been paying attention to anything she was saying and then Lizzie said on camera to the public saying that having a super model is kinda of suckyand she does not feel that her mother wears clothes that are to young for her and as most daughters not feel that their parents jobs are sucky and they need to stay in their time periods and stay there wearing that do not make them look way younger then they are

  14. 1. Yes, Mick would fit in my hometown. I know this because he sounds like a good person and plus he is into football like me and a lot of kids on my street. His values are like mine. He wants to go to college and hopes to make it into the NFL.

    2. New clues to let me know are that he goes through the things boys my age go through. He goes the extra distance at practices and also he hangs out with his friends.

  16. I am readding ALCAPONE DOES MY SHIRTS and i think if Moose moved into my town he probally would fit in to the crazy amazing at sports and athletic group.for one he is a 6 foot 5, built, and knows how do handle a baseball.on the other hand he normally follows all the ruled and never talks back and NEVER gets in trouble. He seems like he would be pretty cool to hang with, but were i live basketball is the game.

  17. my book dates back to the late 1800's and early 1900's and some new reasons i know my book is realistic fiction are
~moving to new places, and fitting in is hard
~Alcatraz is still a prison today
~it is like icceolation from the outside world
~there the inmates do all the work such as
    cooking, painting, laundry
~even there where the security is tight the guards aren't allowed to carry guns because they could be taken under arrest.

  18. 1.I think that he will definetly fit in just because he is a top quality bascketball player and competiter. In this story he helps his friend get over a problem drinking addiction,if he can do that he can definetly be a quality buddy to anyone. The only possible reason that he wouldnt fit in is because of my passion for the Los Angeles Lackers.Sense he is a fan of the boston celtics.Other than that hed be just another guy
    that likes basketball.

2.A few reasons that support my book as realistic fiction are that like I said a couple blogs before he mentions real basketball teams in the N.B.A.Real players as well. But sence this book was made in the 70s ther are some teams that I am not aware of.That may be just because of the books age.

  19. Peightyn D. I can relate to your charicter because I would do almost ANYTHING to fit it. But for me, I wouldnt get in trouble I would just be really funny and fir in. So I can really feel how your charicter Miles Halter is feeling.

  21. In REPONSE TO JON: I have read the book CHAINS and agree with you not just because the book is set the 1700's and some parts of the book they talk old fashion like, but i also believe that Isabel would fit into our hometown because she os a hard worker and is very creative when her life is in danger. Which in todays culture being creative is a great trait. So Isabel would fit into our hometown.

RESPONSE TO JOY FORD: It is cool to have a realistic book because it allows the characters to have realistic qualities that bring them to life and help them fit in with your hometown. My character named Merlinus would not fit in because my book is all about fantasy. The customs are old fasion which makes it harder for some characters to fit in.

  23. RESPONSE TO COLIN:I totaly agree with you.A kid with that sort of backround would not last in our shoes.Unlike farms DE towns are no place to have fun. This is also a place that can get boring very fast.Unlike a farm that has things to do,Camden is just a lump of space. The reason that Delaware is so small is because they didnt want to waste anymore land.

    ReplyDelete
  24. RESPONSE TO JOY FORD: I agree with you saying how your main character would fit into your town because he's the type of person who likes to stick to himself and I know serveral people who like to be by themselves.

  26. The book im reading is THE LANDRY NEWS and i think cara would fit in to our town because there are a lot of smart people in are school and in this area. Her values are the same as ours in this town because we have a lot of people that are very smart and she could easyily make friends with them very fast.
2.i can tell my book is realistic fiction beacuse it gives real names of people that could be in a fifth grade class and they have real events that do happen today in newspapers

  27. TARA . D , iSo agree because Who wouldn't want to hang with their older sister not being able to her everyday & night , She would deffenitly fit in because most Collage kids dont Like hanging with little middle schoolers, or Elemtry or some high schoolers , i really can relate to this because i feel like this mostly all the time when i dont get to see my sister because shes in collaqe and when she does vist she hangs with her friends or"BOYFRIEND ".

  28. REASPONSE TO PEIGHTYN D.:
Although I have never read LOOKING FOR ALASKA your main character seems like someone who would fit in with other teens in Dover. I agree that teens in Dover want to fit in and get in trouble for doing something they shouldn't. So your main character would fit in pretty well or at least try to fit in.

  31. RESPONCE TO TARA.D
Tara the way you described catlin I would agree with you that she would fit in. It sounds like she has a normal family and likes to go outside and sometime argue with her sis that sounds normal if you ask me.

  32. To JASMINE TOLSEN~ if the main character talk hood or street he would kind of fit in with some people with that life style.

    ReplyDelete
  33. RESPONSE TO COLIN: In my book the people would actually fit in but they would be getting in a whole bunch of trouble they would probably try to do what Cap did when he drove a school bus, but they would probably be drunk at the same time.

  34. Stanley Yelnats is the main character in my book. Stanley got sentenced to Camp Green Lake because they thought he stole a pair of shoes, but Zero stole the shoes. Stanley would fit in my neighborhood because he is always helping someone out. He is helpful and not disrespectful. People would like to be his friend.
    2. More reasons why my book is realistic fiction is because kids are stealing things and getting caught. Also kids are being accused of stealing when they actully don't. These two things happend in real life all the time. Stanley also stole Mr. Pandansky's truck and crashed into a hole and Zero went with him. They ran in the hole with a lot of lizards. The people at Camp Green Lake got arrested because they didn't have a license.
